April Books RECAP

shiplap background with 6 book covers over it: Umbra by Rae Else, Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne, Smoke and Spells by Ryver Knight, Of Beast and Beauty by Chanda Hahn, Shadows and Shifters by Ryver Knight, and The Witch Laws by Sally Altass. Added text says: April Books Recap.

It was a very exciting month of reading for me, including quite a few books from authors I hadn’t known of before (and am now following for updates)! I will be honest, a lot of the books in my April Books Recap aren’t the ones I had written up in my April Book Goals post… But I’m probably not the only one to set goals and then randomly change them up, right?

So what books did I get through? There were cosy mysteries, paranormal stories, and (of course) quite a few YA Fantasy tales! I’m finding that I am slower reading a story, now that I’m consistently reviewing them, but that’s probably not a bad thing. After all, that just means a book gets to sit with my heart for a little bit longer, and that’s pretty special. For the most part my April reads were written by incredibly brilliant indie authors, and I am (not-so-quietly) loving how many amazing stories are out there because they’ve taken the leap and self-published!

Life is pretty good when you have books about you…

There were 11 books read throughout April, all of them brimming with adventure and excitement.

If you want an insight into what exactly was going on for me during April, the links below are my reviews for the eleven books I fell in love with:

Umbra: Rae Else

Midnight Thief: Livia Blackburne

Smoke and Spells: Ryver Knight

Of Beast and Beauty: Chanda Hahn

Shadows and Shifters: Ryver Knight

The Witch Laws: Sally Altass

Shards of Venus: Tjalara Draper

Manners and Monsters: Tilly Wallace

Felgrim: E. M. Duffield-Fuller

Twisted Treats: Cate Lawley

Keeper of Scales: Anne Mollova

What books didn’t I read, that I had promised myself I would?

  • Dragon Keeper: Robin Hobb
  • Nottingham: Nathan Makaryk
  • A Legacy of Storms and Starlight: Victoria J. Price
  • The Last Voyage of Mrs Henry Parker: Joanna Nell
  • Vengeance Blooms: Chloe Hodge
  • Searching for Charlotte: Kate Forsyth & Belinda Murrell
  • Dance of Thieves: Mary E. Pearson

I know, I know. It was a lot that I didn’t get around to reading. Buuuut…. Quite a few that I did read, weren’t on my list at all! So it kind of evens out, right? Right? Maybe just say yes, even if you don’t agree. I’ll feel better.

And the April Favourite Read Goes To…

Oh this was a tough choice. There were *so* many good reads! But it wouldn’t be a true April Books Recap without nominating a favourite read, so that honours goes to…

Umbra by Rae Else! It’s the third book in The Dark Between series and I was so, so excited to finally get my hands on it! Yes I was spoiled and got an eARC of the brilliantly written NA Fantasy (it doesn’t actually come out until the 5th of May), but let me tell you, it is *fantastic*. The war creates fragility in the characters we’ve fallen in love with throughout the first two books of the series (Luna and Nox), and now we get to witness how Jess copes with the everchanging world about her… I really can’t recommend Rae’s writing highly enough. Don’t believe me? Read my review! I *love* Rae Else’s Umbra.

And that’s a wrap, glitterbugs!

Happy reading, dear bookworms. And stay tuned for more reviews in May…
