This is the sequel to the wonderful Flames Like Darkness and let me tell you, I rushed through this NA romantic fantasy like no tomorrow! After all, how could I pause my reading when I needed answers?! Now let’s give you an overview, shall we?

Happiness Boost:
Oh glitterbugs, what a tumultuous adventure we go on within Death Like Shadows! My biggest happiness boost? This gritty romantasy engulfs us in Calla’s grief and pain, as she tries to rise from all of the blows she endured in the previous book. Belle and Angelina don’t gloss over just how hard this journey is, and I’m just in awe of Calla’s strength. She feels broken, her magic is unruly when it answers her call, and yet… Still, she rises. There’s so many scars on her heart now, but she does it. I completely adore this heroine.
I thought I knew where we were going after I finished Flames Like Darkness, but *wow*. This NA fantasy just keeps giving us more secrets, more revelations and *so* much more within these pages than I ever expected! How can you pack so much in just 313 pages?! It feels like the entire world is against Calla and Griffyn, and there’s nothing I love more than valiant MCs who set out to fix the world, even when they’re at their lowest.
I am deliberately being vague, because I don’t want to give away spoilers. But what I *will* say? If you want a tale of forbidden romance, an adorable sidekick in the form of a three-eyed hyena, and deception that knows no bounds? This is the series for you! There were so many moments in Death like Shadows where my jaw dropped, because I couldn’t believe things could get any worse for Calla and Griffyn. Heads up: they could, and they did. But that’s such great writing! I am desperate to know what comes next now!
Downside:
There’s no downside to this wonderful second instalment in the Flames Like Darkness series!
Final Thoughts:
Death Like Shadows by Belle Manuel and Angelina J. Steffort is a romantic fantasy featuring dark choices, forbidden love and a defiant hope in the face of grief.
