The time has finally come glitterbugs, for me to write my review for Dire Bound by the wonderful Sable Sorensen! This romantasy was, unfortunately, tucked away in my TBR until March this year, until I did a buddy read with two incredible friends. And now? I’m determined to not make Fury Bound wait so long for me to get my act together! But without further ado, it’s overview time…
Meryn has always dreamed of creating a better life for her family, far removed from the poverty they currently live in. But the last thing she’d ever want to do is become one of the Bonded, a group of warriors who form unbreakable bonds with direwolves. Yet when Meryn’s sister Saela is taken in the night by the enemy? Meryn will stop at nothing to get her back, even when her plan to enlist in the army is upended by the deadly Bonding Trials. Can Meryn survive the trials, when her bonded direwolf wants nothing to do with her? Why is Stark Therion, the Alpha of the Daemos pack, always watching her? Dark secrets are about to come to light, and Meryn may not survive them…
Happiness Boost:
Dire Bound gripped me from the start, and I’m a huge fan of how Meryn will go to any lengths to save her family. This heroine knows how to hold onto what’s important, even on the hardest days, and my heart hurt for her when she struggled. But what I love most about her? She’s *real*. This isn’t some FMC who sails through every challenge. Meryn Cooper claws her way over, under, and through the obstacles she faces. She breathes fire when protecting those she loves, and yet tastes her own tears when devastation hits. Honestly, I adore her.
Sable (aka the ridiculously talented duo, Annie and Eliza) elevates this romantasy with a multitude of fears, secrets, and dire consequences for Meryn to navigate. And just when you think you can settle, that you might be able to put the book down and do an everyday task? Dire Bound will hit your heart with another revelation, so that you’re once again frantically wondering how anyone could survive this realm, and turning pages like you don’t need to eat or sleep. Obviously, that’s a happiness boost!
Glitterbugs… Maybe it’s a good thing I haven’t had a chance to write my review until now? Because let me tell you, in March when I finished my buddy read? I was not coherent! Instead, I was just ecstatic that a story like this existed, and I’d had the foresight to grab it for my TBR (even if I was very slow at getting around to it). I want to fangirl even more, but I best not. Suffice to say, you and I both know it’s a good read. Now we just need to make anyone who *hasn’t* already read it, do that right now.
Downside:
No downside here, as Fury Bound is already here and waiting for me!
Final Thoughts:
Dire Bound by Sable Sorensen is a romantasy full of feminine rage, broken promises, and an incredible amount of plot twists. I love this story, ever so much. Which is why I have multiple copies and no plans to stop adding to the collection. But surely there’s worse hobbies to have, than collecting multiple editions of a beloved story?
