“I’ll be your villain for as long as you need me to be.”

Maham Fatemi

Overview:

A massive thank you goes to the incredible indie author Maham Fatemi, for letting me read an ARC of Drakkon: Empire’s Curse! This dark romantic fantasy is book one in a new series, and I cannot overstate how much I need you to read it if you love this genre. But before I get too caught up in my excitement, let’s give you an overview!

Daiyu has despised Emperor Drakkon Muyang from afar for years, ever since her fiancé died in a war against the usurper. So when Daiyu’s younger sister is taken to the palace for royal selection? She’ll stop at nothing to get her sister away from the man rumoured to be part dragon, part demon. Accidentally catching Muyang’s attention, can Daiyu survive his interest and the hatred of the noble women around her? Why is everyone so secretive about what the mages do for the emperor? And when enemies think they’ve found Muyang’s weakness, will the empire survive what happens next?

Maham, I need to put in a never-ending order for your books…

Happiness Boost:

Maham has outdone herself with the tension in this dark fantasy! The danger is sky-high, and you’re never too sure who Daiyu is meant to trust. And can we talk about the slow burn romance between our two main characters? Muyang is a cold, aloof man who loves to push people’s limits… And who better to give his undivided attention to than Daiyu? She’s never come across someone like him before, and I was head over heels for how this duo’s sparks flew from the very beginning.

We get magic. We get hot tempers. And you know what else we get? Comedy. This may be a dark romantic fantasy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun with the tale! And goodness doesn’t Maham deliver with some of Daiyu’s lines in particular… This woman is scrappy, but not too quick on her feet when put on the spot. If I accidentally start saying “High-jesty” in place of “Your Highness/Majesty”, I can tell you this book is the reason why!

I really don’t want to give away spoilers, but please believe me when I tell you this… Reading Drakkon: Empire’s Curse is a necessity. I’ve been completely and utterly enchanted with how Maham’s crafted this fantasy; in fact I couldn’t bear to take my eyes off the Kindle until the very end! You. Need. This. Book. And I need to get a physical copy of this romantasy as soon as possible for my shelves, because who needs space when there’s a story like this in the world?!

Downside:

I honestly have no downside for this glorious tale!

Final Thoughts:

Drakkon: Empire’s Curse by indie author Maham Fatemi is a dark romantic fantasy full of tension, high stakes and slow burn deliciousness. Am I coherent enough in this review? I sure hope so! But goodness it’s hard to find the right words when you’re in love with a story like this. I just want to start shouting the title to strangers and making them put it on their TBR.
