When an early copy of Fate & Furies by indie author Helen Scheuerer arrived in my inbox, I admit I immediately stopped everything else and dived in. Because how could I do anything less?! Happiness Boost:
Full disclosure: I may not be very coherent in this review, because I’m still fangirling exceptionally hard over Fate & Furies. But I’ll try to tell you just some of the reasons *why* I’m incoherent! Within this romantic fantasy, the secrets of Thezmarr are finally unraveling (which is a huge relief after the Vows & Ruins cliffhanger). But even though readers of Slaying the Shadow Prince will know some of them, Helen delivers even *more* surprises in this book! There are secrets in this story which captivated both my imagination and my heart, leaving me bereft when I read the final page. I’m telling you, Helen is a master of writing epic stories which leave you wanting more.
Buckle up, buttercups. Because if you thought the love story in Legends of Thezmarr couldn’t get any better? Fate & Furies is about to leave you *speechless*. Honestly the chemistry between Thea and Wilder is next level, but so is the character growth for Thea and those around her. Even as the world is quite literally tearing apart around them, the characters within this fantasy don’t lose their humanity. Yes, they have their faults. But there’s always someone around to call out wrong behaviour or assumptions. I love that! Thea and her ragtag crew are found family goals and I won’t hear any different.
Because I don’t want to give away spoilers, I’m just going to give you a quick overview of some of my other happiness boosts. You are going to encounter monsters in this tale like you’ve never seen before. There’s also an epic quest which will give you Tamora Pierce Song of the Lioness vibes. I’ve quite literally cried over pages in Fate & Furies, just as I’ve laughed thanks to the banter within this romantasy. There is *so* much to love here, I could go on for months. Honestly, this epic romantic fantasy is proof that a series can just get better and better when there’s a master storyteller at the helm.
