As soon as I dived into the second instalment in the YA fantasy series, Fallen Legacies, I realised I was an idiot for taking this long to devour Forging Darkness by Julie Hall.* Sometimes we just need to be honest with ourselves, right? Clearly, I want everyone else to make better life choices than I’ve done! So let’s immediately give you an overview, shall we?
Months have passed since Steel left Emberly and their friends behind, determined to track down his sister Silver before she can hurt anyone else. But everyone knows that strength comes in numbers, and Emberly will follow him to the ends of the earth. However, when an army of Fallen surround them? Emberly soon finds herself a prisoner within the Fallen stronghold, the White Kingdom. Aching to get back to those she loves, Emberly’s thrown for a loop when her captor promises her answers about her heritage. Are the secrets Thorne can divulge worth the risk of staying longer? Happiness Boost:
You know what I really, really love about Forging Darkness? How Emberly never stops trying to do what’s right, even though the world has never been kind to her. It doesn’t matter that the mortal world has been terrible to her, she’ll fight to her last breath to defend the people there. I adore her heart and her sincerity, especially as it seems to puzzle Thorne as he fights to bring her over to the side of the Fallen and Forsaken.
Let’s talk noble, broken heroes! In Forging Darkness, Steel continues to not only have a tortured soul, but the weight of the world on his shoulders as well. Overwhelmed with guilt over past actions, he can’t see that he’s got a good heart. I *love* tortured heroes, and Steel is the very definition of one in this YA fantasy! And let me tell you glitterbugs, the sparks between Steel and Emberly are flying thick and fast. Their relationship is couple goals, I’m telling you!
I don’t want to give away spoilers, in case you’re late to this adventure like I was… But with a tale like this? I’m telling you, you’re going to love it if you enjoy the YA fantasy genre! There’s so much magic, heartache and conflict within this book… It actually took my breath away. Add to that a deadly tournament and so much more? Holy guacamole Julie’s written something amazing!
Downside:
I’ve enjoyed every single page of Forging Darkness, there’s no downside for me!

Forging Darkness by Julie Hall is a YA fantasy full of magic, power struggles and a deadly tournament which could see the end of everything. Of course that makes for a brilliant story!
