Morgan loves her work, as she gets to hang out with her bestie in a large (and slightly ominous) library. But when a book goes missing and she goes back to Dragerfield Library at night, her entire life changes. Her workplace at night is entirely different from how it operates during the day, and it turns out that it’s a portal to Risest, the Faerie realm. Humans aren’t allowed to be here after the sun goes down, but she’s laying the blame on a certain fae… Because if Drager hadn’t called her? She wouldn’t be in this position. Now Morgan is heading to Faerie, and the dragon shifter is keeping her close. Can Morgan help him and the other gods of this realm, to foil someone’s deadly plans? And what happens when she learns the truth about her best friend, Lexie? Is a human ever safe when surrounded by dragons?
Happiness Boost:
Jaymin knows how to write new worlds, without it ever feeling like a previous one. And that’s saying something, because have you *seen* her back catalogue?! I swear it’s like Jaymin’s part magic herself, because how else can this be accomplished? I also love that a library still plays a major part in the story, much like it does in Jaymin’s phenomenal Shadow Beast Shifters series. I mean even without the fae roaming the area, we all know they’re still magical places, right?!
At the heart of Gilded Wings, we have a classic mystery on our hands. Because both Morgan and Drager need to know, who would dare steal a book from the library? But of course, being in a world of shifters and fae, it was never going to be a simple quest for the answer! I love that this is the focal point though, because some romantasy I’ve come across in the past can lack a solid plot to hold everything together. This is *not* a problem for this dark fantasy!
Found family. Touch her and I’ll unalive you. Fated mates. These are some *very* delicious tropes, and Jaymin sprinkles them across every page within this story. Trust me, Gilded Wings knows what us bookworms want and delivers! Now I don’t want to give spoilers, but I can tell you there’s a situation… And by the time I got to the end? I don’t know which side I want to cheer for. All I *will* say, is that if you love shifters and their possessive vibes? This will be just the thing for you!
Downside:
I admit, the forced proximity moment near the start of Gilded Wings seemed just a little too contrived for me. Maybe if it had happened later on, it wouldn’t have jolted me from the story… But for a moment, I actually dreaded going any further. Having said that, *please* don’t let this dissuade you. Because once we moved past the moment? The story just got better and better!
Final Thoughts:
Gilded Wings by indie author Jaymin Eve is a spicy romantasy which will delight every bookworm who wants a tale of dragons and fated mates. And as this is book one in a duology?
