I finally got around to reviewing three of the books I’d listed for my January goals, with only Heir of Illusion not quite making it onto the blog in time. So yes, I am celebrating! And not only that, but I dived headfirst into The Wolf and the Crown of Blood by Elizabeth May… Holy guacamole glitterbugs, what a romantasy that is. And the January Favourite Read Goes To…
It may be controversial, but for my January 2026 Books Recap? The favourite read has to go to Tides of Torment by N. C. Scrimgeour! This dark fantasy held me completely in thrall, and I cannot think of a better finale for Isla Blackwood and the rest of the ragtag crew surrounding her.
Like I said in my review, this dark fantasy is a masterpiece in portraying how memories hold power, and how they can twist into being someone’s salvation or ruin. Not only that, but to read Isla’s story is to fall in love with the mythology of the sea. And with every twist and turn, every new beastie revealed from underneath the waves? I can promise you one thing: you won’t ever look at the sea the same way again. There’s magic there, and Scrimgeour has given us the spyglass with which to view it. So why wouldn’t you want to immerse yourself in such an adventure?!
