Book four in the Blood of the Fae series, this gaslamp fantasy will twine itself around your soul, much like the kit-isne Jade tends to twine around Jessa. I’m forever grateful that I live in the same world as Sarah and her beautiful writing, because entering this realm is like coming home. If you haven’t seen my reviews for the previous books? Jessa has done everything she can to avoid the Vigil, knowing how they treat anything Other. When she’s taken into their custody, it soon becomes clear that the Vigil are working on someone else’s orders… But who could it be? An unknown fae is hunting Jessa, determined to bring about not only her ruin, but also that of her family. As ancient powers rise and new dangers appear, can Jessa and Riven find a way to restore the balance between the realms? The time has come for Jessa to forsake the bonds tying her to the human world, but not all is as it seems. Must Jessa give up everyone she loves to save them? Can her curious mind find a way to stave off a deadly enemy, threatening both mortal and fae? Or will everything crumble around her, including the friendship she’s forged with Riven?
Happiness Boost:
Mirror of Argent is a gaslamp fantasy full of deadly peril, capricious fae, and the most loyal family (and friends) you could ever hope to find. I honestly don’t know where to begin, with listing what I love about this tale. Saying “everything” doesn’t really work, does it? So let’s start with Jessa, our heroine. Thrown into the world of Other, Jessa must learn how to survive the duplicity that awaits her there. My heart broke for her, when she realised how transactional everything is to the fae. But Jessa didn’t grow up around Aunt Melisina for nothing; Jessa not only learns how to play the game when she must, but ensures that her humanity still shines through. I adore how Sarah weaves this through everything, ensuring it’s at the heart of this fantasy.
Speaking of the heart… Jessa and Riven, with their friendship and the hints towards more? I cannot look away! Within Mirror of Argent, this duo must navigate the complexities of Riven being sworn to obey his king, even as he’s determined to do all he can to help Jessa. Couple their fierce friendship, which defies all things when you consider Riven’s role as a fae arbiter, with those hints of what could be? Is it any wonder I glared when moments to speak their truth were interrupted! I’m such a fan of Jessa and Riven’s, and I’m aching for a happily ever after.
I said it earlier and I’ll say it again, reading this gaslamp fantasy is like coming home. Sarah dives deep into the cosiness of the regency era, even as she exposes us to the darker sides of the fae realm. And with the gentle sass of Jade making an appearance, as Jessa navigates the mysteries about her? Reading this series is like being given a comforting hug from your favourite person.
Downside:
Sarah has never, and will never, be capable of crafting anything other than the perfect story.

Mirror of Argent by Sarah Chislon is a gaslamp fantasy full of tested loyalties, deadly bargains with the fae, and an ancient rising power. I’m completely besotted, but you’ve probably gathered that by this review! I’m incapable of saying more, because I just desperately want you to read this series.
