This fantasy romance finale delivers the heart of the midrealms on a platter, exceeding every expectation you could ever have for Wren and Torj’s story. And trust me, I’m not saying that lightly! Helen has not only weaved a spell from the threads of Ashes, but she’s also interlaced them with a number of sparkling strands from the previous series, The Legends of Thezmarr. Whether you first came to Thezmarr via Wren’s story or Thea’s, this final instalment will deliver a thrill along your spine.
Wren has always been an incredible alchemist, quick to come up with solutions that others fail to see. But one of the things I love most within Silver & Smoke is seeing Wren learn to lead from the front. The time for her to be in the shadows is at an end. She will either become Queen of Delmira, or be known as the heir who fell to Silas the Kingsbane. I love how Wren navigates the expectations of so many, even as she remains true to herself. And that isn’t to say Helen gives us an infallible character; with Wren, we are instead gifted an FMC who is so relatable because she is *real*. She falters. She questions herself. But she endures all things.
Glitterbugs, I am doing everything I can to not spoil any big surprises with this review. Why? Because I *want* you to be yelling at the book with excitement like I did. And I *need* you to be crying as you frantically flip the pages, just like yours truly. I am honestly humbly requesting that you find me as soon as you come up to certain moments, and message me about your love for what Helen has crafted here. This is more than the perfect finale to The Ashes of Thezmarr. This is the most heartfelt, bittersweet goodbye to a bookish realm you will ever witness. If you’re hoping Helen will give you romance, found family goodness, and a story that will own you down to your very bones? This is her gift to you. Silver & Smoke is utter perfection.
