“The darkness grows because of you.”

Helen Scheuerer

Overview:

All of my priorities shifted when I recently received an e-ARC of Slaying the Shadow Prince by indie author Helen Scheuerer… Because who can concentrate on life when your favourite author gives you new material?! This fantasy romance is part of the Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers series of standalone tales, *but* can also be read as a prequel to the fabulous Blood & Steel. So really, we’re getting the best of both worlds here!

Drue Emmerson is a ranger within the broken kingdom of Naarva, desperate for vengeance against the shadow wraiths who killed her family. But when the famous Warsword (Talemir Starling) divulges the secret that he’s now half-wraith, Drue must choose where her allegiances truly lie… Because someone dear to Drue has been taken, and Talemir might be the only one who can find them. Can Drue trust a monster to keep his word? Is there any end to the armies of wraiths slipping through the Veil? Will Drue’s heart survive a monster, or will she kill Talemir before the end?

A spicy fantasy romance, Slaying the Shadow Prince is the perfect escape from reality…

Happiness Boost:

Helen is renowned for her fierce heroines, but Slaying the Shadow Prince really has delivered a heroine like no other. Drue knows her own mind, isn’t afraid to take the lead, and constantly works towards ending the world of wraiths. Characters in this fantasy romance are complex, full of heartache and defiant hope against all the odds. If you weren’t already a fan of Helen’s writing, I’m sure you will be after reading this tale!

Let’s talk about spice, shall we? And brooding heroes who have something to prove, both to themselves and the world… Spicy, scorching romance is *in*, dear readers. And Helen’s written a spectacularly steamy tale featuring enemies to lovers! Is it just me, or is that the best trope ever for fantasy romance?! If Talemir isn’t one of your absolute favourite male characters after this, I can only assume it’s because Wilder (aka, the epic hero in Blood & Steel) got there first.

Slaying the Shadow Prince delves into the darkest realm, full of terror and sorrow. And with a tiny flickering flame of hope come to life amongst the shadows, it’s no wonder that readers are going to fall under the spell of this NA fantasy romance. If you’re a fan of Anne Bishop, Jaymin Eve, Jennifer L. Armentrout or Danielle L. Jensen? Helen’s contribution to the Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers series is just what you’ve been looking for!

Downside:

No downside! This tale is perfect exactly how it is.

Final Thoughts:

Slaying the Shadow Prince by indie author Helen Scheuerer is an absolutely extraordinary standalone fantasy romance. And the fact that it can also be read as a prequel to the Legends of Thezmarr series? I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of the breadcrumbs Helen’s left within! If you want a book which can give you the best kind of escapism, honestly look no further… Because anyone who loves fantasy romance is going to fall head over heels for Drue and Talemir’s story!
