Tuli for letting me dive into an e-ARC of Storm of Ink and Blood!* This is the third instalment in the fantasy romance series, The Nightfire Quartet, and it is *mesmerising*. Seriously, I kept turning the pages long after I should’ve been asleep. So let’s give you an overview, shall we?!
Zarya has now joined the rebellion, determined to free the enslaved. But to do this, she must embrace all that she is, including the dark magic which lives within her. Because if she doesn’t? The magically enslaved vanshaj will never know freedom, and their punishment for dreaming of a better world will be terrible. But to do this, Zarya must reunite with Rabin… Can Zarya forgive Rabin’s lies and move on from their past? Is her magic truly the thing that will set everyone free? How many lives will be lost before the Rising Phoenix rebellion gets their reckoning?
Happiness Boost:
Storm of Ink and Blood not only elevates the danger, but also heightens the romance and sumptuous history which has brought the characters to where they are now. Nisha twines this story around a reader’s heart, until you are living and breathing solely for Zarya. Add to that the rocky path Zarya must tread, in order to become who she was always meant to be? Reluctant heroine is the understatement of the year. But still, Zarya rises to the occasion… With her gritty determination, her ability to love above all else, her efforts to make the world a better place in the face of everything? Zarya is a Queen in my eyes. And, obviously, so is Nisha.
With the addition of Rabin’s POV in Storm of Ink and Blood, I felt like this fantasy romance immerses us into the story even more than we were, which is saying something! But who knew the brooding hero was even more complex than we thought?! Glitterbugs, when he tells Zarya about his past? My heart ached for him. And I’m hoping *so* hard that his future is bright. He deserves so much better than what he’s lived through. No, I won’t be saying any more than that about him. Spoilers, dear glitterbugs. Spoilers.
Holy guacamole it’s been a while since I read of a rebellion like this one. There’s so many moving parts to the Rising Phoenix; this is an incredibly intricate system! I adore how Nisha envelops us in the fear and defiant hope emanating from this group, and keeps us on the edge of our seat throughout the entire tale. At no point do you feel safe. Of course that’s a happiness boost!
Downside:
I completely adore this gorgeous tale, there’s no downside for me!
