It’s hard to believe, but with the release of The Amethyst Kingdom by A. K. Mulford, we’ve now come to the end of the NA fantasy series, The Five Crowns of Okrith!* Am I ready to say goodbye? Not really. So will I be re-reading the entire series again, in an effort to put off the farewell? I think we all know the answer to that, don’t we glitterbugs? But before I do, let’s give you an overview!
Carys is determined to win the crown of the Eastern Court, and just five trials are now standing in the way of her fulfilling her dream. But when all of the contenders are gathered, Carys discovers her Fated mate is also vying for the crown… As well as her heart. Can Carys forgive him for a past hurt, which saw the end of their relationship? Why does every move Carys makes feels like she’s making the wrong choice? And how will Okrith’s most powerful enemy, a violet witch, take advantage of the trials to pursue her own agenda?

Happiness Boost:
You know what I most love about The Amethyst Kingdom? How Carys has to grow as a character, gaining self-awareness even when it’s a hard lesson to learn. I love that we get a character who realises her faults, and sets about righting her past wrongs! Add to that the pain Carys suffers when she bleeds… Glitterbugs, do you know how special it is to see this kind of representation in a fantasy? From the bottom of my heart, thank you for giving us a character like this, Ali. She’s honestly now my favourite character within this entire series. I said what I said.
When a finale comes along, you always hope it’s going to live up to your expectations. And oh my goodness did I have high ones for The Amethyst Kingdom! But, of course, it has delivered. In fact, it completely blew my expectations out of the water. There’s so many threads coming together in this finale, and at no point did it feel like anything but perfection! Every single character arc, every devious trial, every tragic moment elevates the tale to a crescendo like no other. And when you hit the peak? It. Is. Glorious.
There’s something to be said for second chance love. And you know what that is? I really love it! Who knew, right?! But this NA fantasy has convinced me that it’s a beautiful trope and I need more like it… I adore the tug of war Carys and Ersan experience, as they try to navigate their way to a new place in their relationship. Is it a smooth journey? Of course not! But that just makes every moment they share that much more poignant. Can you tell I’m a fan?! I feel like I’m waffling, but it’s incredibly hard not to fangirl incoherently when I read a story like this one.
Downside:
This has been the perfect ending to The Five Crowns of Okrith series, I have no downside!

The Amethyst Kingdom by A. K. Mulford is the finale to a truly wonderful NA fantasy series, brimming with twists, magic and heartache. I love it with everything that I am and need to immediately do a re-read because I can’t handle the thought of saying goodbye. That’s normal, right? Right?! Love what you’ve heard here?
