A huge thank you goes to Maham Fatemi, for letting me read an e-ARC of The Crown of the Last Fae Queen! This YA fantasy romance is book four in The Heartless and the Wicked series, and you can see my reviews for the previous books here. I will note that this series was originally meant to be a quartet, but will now actually be a quintet as there’s so much more adventuring still to come. So with that said, let’s give you an overview for this new penultimate instalment!
Kolfinna has been abducted by her half-elf commander of a father, but it’s not to save her from the pending war between humans and fae. Instead, he wants Kolfinna to free the evil fae queen who has been asleep for centuries. But the more time Kolfinna spends with the ancient fae army, the more confused she becomes. Is it possible that everything she’s ever been told was a lie? Who is the real villain in this story, fae or humans? Kolfinna soon discovers that she has only two choices before her: betray the man she loves, or potentially doom an entire race. No matter which path she takes, this kingdom will never be the same again…
Happiness Boost:
The Crown of the Last Fae Queen is a story full of the highest of stakes, emotional heartache and impossible choices. No matter which path Kolfinna decides to tread in this fantasy romance, someone is going to get hurt. And I love how Maham makes this so clear, because you know what? It’s true. In times of conflict, no one is safe. Someone *will* be saying goodbye. I raced through this glorious tale, because my heart was lodged in my throat. I feared for Kolfinna and Blár, as well as for all of the new friends and allies Kolfinna’s made. So of course that’s a happiness boost—how could it not be, when I’m unable to put a book down?!
You know the trope, when he’d burn the world down for her? Blár, our spiky force of nature of an MMC, will literally encase the world in ice if Kolfinna is harmed. And Kolfinna will stop at nothing to save him, too. I’m so in love with every nuance of this relationship, with every glimpse at how deep their love for each other runs. This couple are relationship goals. But, even more than that, they’re one of my favourite fictional couples EVER. Is that a big call, for someone who reads as much as I do? Yes. But I dare you to say otherwise after reading this incredible series!
You know what else I love about Maham’s writing (aside from everything)? I’m such a fan of the way the plot twists and turns, forever giving you something unexpected! This series will curl up around your heart like a cat seeking warmth in winter, and it will never ever leave. Do you know how often I’ve had to talk myself out of getting Maham’s books from her own store?? Every time I read one of her books, I have to remind myself international shipping is not my friend. But my resistance is crumbling like a poorly constructed sandcastle, and honestly her writing is worth any amount.
Downside:
There’s no downside with Maham’s writing!
Final Thoughts:
The Crown of the Last Fae Queen by Maham Fatemi is a YA fantasy romance full of dark paths, high stakes and emotional turmoil. It is a bewitching story which can’t be put down.
