A massive thank you goes to Lisette Marshall for letting me read an e-ARC of The Death-Made Prince, book one in the Runewitch Saga! This dark fantasy romance has completely swept me away into a world of cutthroat politics and magic, and I couldn’t be happier. So let’s give you an overview before I chat about all the things I love within these pages!
Thraga has just one night left in the cells, before she’s sentenced to hang from the gallows for avenging her lover’s murder. But when Durlain Averre is thrown into the cells with her, everything changes. This necromancer prince could bring Lark back from the dead. But the cost is a steep one: when they escape from their cell, Thraga must accompany Durlain into the stronghold of a king, using her forbidden rune magic to help free his sister. Happiness Boost:
The Death-Made Prince is a story which will completely enthral you from the very first page. And the fact that we get two morally grey characters for our leads in this glorious fantasy romance?? I binge-read this tale, because I couldn’t look away! I adore how grumpy Thraga and Durlain are, and their bickering made the softer moments just that much sweeter. But one of the things I loved most about this instalment? Durlain didn’t let Thraga diminish her abilities. He showed, again and again, that he trusted her to get things done. He trusted her ability to think on her feet, to plan ahead. She was not a burden, not in his eyes. Yes, he was cranky and bitter while he was pointing it out. But that didn’t stop him from reminding Thraga of her capabilities.
Shall we talk magic? I think we should! And honestly, is it any wonder I found The Death-Made Prince so captivating, with necromancy at its heart? Within this fantasy romance, we experience a harrowing tale of death—and the cost it exacts. Lisette has given us more than just a wonderful read, this is a unique and delicate tale which delves into a darkness most of us fear to look at too deeply. And I’m saying it right now, I want to hug Durlain so badly. He would absolutely hate every moment of it, but this prince of fire and death needs it more than anyone I know.
Within The Death-Made Prince, we bear witness to a heroine who is only just starting to believe she is enough on her own. Thraga has always thought she needed someone with her, needed someone to tell her what to do. To see her become a woman who owns her power (and I’m not just talking rune magic), who recognises that she is enough as she is? My heart, glitterbugs… It was so full. I love Thraga. And I so badly want to say *so* much more about her and her journey, but I don’t want to give away any spoilers. Just read this book, okay? Okay!

The Death-Made Prince by Lisette Marshall is a dark fantasy romance featuring morally grey characters, deadly promises, and broken hearts. It is one of the best reads I have had all year.
