“I had always known death awaited me.”
Catalina Matei
Overview:
A massive thank you goes to Catalina Matei, for letting me read an e-ARC of her debut fantasy, The Imminent Trials of Quietus! This romantasy is just the beginning of the Vials of Fate trilogy, and I’m incredibly excited to see how the story will evolve across the series… But let’s give you an overview for the first book, shall we?!
Tiadola was never meant to live for long. The last of her kind, Tia has been biding her time amongst mortals, helping them prepare for a war they never wanted. A war they can never hope to win. Knowing that she’s running out of time, it’s no surprise when the three-headed dragon finally appears before Tia. She has been summoned to her trials. Compelled to hunt her, the dragon is just as much a victim of a god’s vengeful plan as she is. But Tia won’t go down without a fight. Can Tia be the first of her kind to win the trials? Who is this henchman who decides to journey alongside her? Why is a god so fearful of letting her live?

Happiness Boost:
The Imminent Trials of Quietus is such a tale of darkness and deception! Tia has always known it’s practically impossible for her to survive the trials of quietus, but does that stop her? Not at all. She embraces the darkness, the desolate landscape of her future. And she just does what she can with the time she’s been given, to help the mortals around her against a powerful foe. This is one of the things I love most about this fantasy! Tia has the darkest of futures, and her mental health reflects that. But still, she persists.
Can we talk about found family and fated loves?! Oh Catalina… There’s many things that surprised me within this romantasy, and these bonds are no exception. I adore how the characters connect to each other, but probably none more so than Tia and Zadohn. These two have such a battle ahead of them, but their relationship only grows stronger as time goes on. And by the time Tia faces the final trial? I was ready to tear my hair out from anxiety, because they just deserve happiness okay?!
Within The Imminent Trials of Quietus, Catalina has created such a unique magic system. I won’t lie, it’s one I long to explore even more than what we get in this first instalment of the Vials of Fate trilogy! To have a race who can only use their magic when they’re asleep is like nothing I’ve come across before. And for the dragons to have vials of various magic adorning their heads? Colour me completely intrigued! I need to know more. In fact I need to know *everything*.
Downside:
Although some may feel that this story starts a little slow, I promise you that by the time you get to the end? You’ll be looking around for the next instalment!
Final Thoughts:
The Imminent Trials of Quietus by Catalina Matei is a romantic fantasy of hardship, found family and an undying love. I’m extremely intrigued for what’s to come in this trilogy, and you can bet I’ll be reading the rest of the books as soon as they’re available! Love what you’ve heard from my review?
