I knew going in that The Mist Thief by LJ Andrews was going to be an incredible dark fantasy romance, and let me tell you… It more than lived up to my expectations! This gorgeous tale is the third instalment in The Ever Seas series, but follows a different couple to our beloved Erik and Livia from books one and two. Full confession: I thought this new duo would be sharing the top spot with our original couple. But, dare I say it? They might have overtaken them! So let’s give you an overview, shall we?
When Skadi faced off against Jonas during battle, she never could’ve predicted that he would become her husband. But when her kin and the fae agree that there’s a common enemy they must face? One who will stop at nothing to gain control of Skadi and her powers? Where to even begin… Seriously! How do I put into words just how much I loved The Mist Thief?! This fantasy romance is for anyone who has ever felt uncomfortable in their own world, for those who struggle to find where they fit in. Within The Mist Thief, Skadi must learn how it feels to be accepted for everything that she is (even the parts of her that scare her). It’s a heart-breaking journey at times, because she’s always wondering when someone will look at her with fear or disgust. I adore how LJ elegantly, quietly, envelops us with acceptance and love through Skadi’s tale. There’s no big fanfare, no jolting moment. It just is. And I’m so in love with it.
LJ writes one of the most endearing found families I’ve ever come across, and I clearly need to go back and read The Broken Kingdoms really soon! I have book one in that series waiting for me thanks to a wonderful friend, so there’s really no excuse. I love how deeply this crew care about one another, including Skadi, even when they’ve barely spent any time with her. And the lengths that everyone would go to for each other? It knows no bounds, and in my eyes that’s one of the most magical things about The Mist Thief.
The further you go in The Mist Thief, the more you feel bound to the fates of Skadi and Jonas. I knew no rest, because I needed to reassure myself that LJ would give us a happily ever after. Surely, battling nightmares and terrible evil couldn’t last? Something had to break, and I didn’t want it to be my heart. This incredible instalment in The Ever Seas gives a reader absolutely everything they could ever want in a fantasy romance… If you want impossible odds and an epic love story? This delivers. Are you yearning for a tale that fills the broken parts of your soul and thus repairs it? Because LJ makes it happen. I promise this is a must read!
