“Heroes don’t survive here.”

Amanda Aggie

I just couldn’t resist This Wicked Fate by indie author Amanda Aggie any longer! This NA fantasy romance was beckoning to me from my Kindle, and I was more than happy to dive into this new story. Before I go any further, I will note that this book can be read as a standalone, but apparently a character in this tale also features in Amanda’s Dark Halos trilogy. So have I now added that to my TBR? You know I have! Now without any further ado, let’s give you an overview, shall we?

As a Princess of Solaria, Eva is meant to let men fight to the death in a competition named the gauntlet, so that a suitable husband can be chosen. But what happens when Eva declares she’ll fight in the gauntlet too? Treachery is rife within this kingdom, and the mad King Ares refuses to let Eva win. When Eva becomes a prisoner, can a druid find a way to save her even though they’re both in chains? What happens when Eva’s beast gains control? And is there any way to end King Ares’ reign?

I’m so in love with Amanda Aggie’s ability to write a dark yet humorous NA fantasy romance!

Happiness Boost:

I’ve read a lot of fantasy romance lately, but I can honestly say no other story has made me laugh as much as This Wicked Fate! Finn, our resident druid, is the absolute best. He’s a fierce warrior, but his quirks make him so much more than just the immortal MC we’re meant to love. Is he a dark and brooding hero? Absolutely not. But with his golden retriever energy and pure heart, I’m tempted to go over to the ‘light’ side. In fact, there’s a particular moment of mistaken identity which very nearly caused my cup of tea to spill everywhere from laughter!

Amanda has created a very dark world, one which delights in cruelty and brutal bloodshed. The fact that she’s been able to contrast that with characters like Eva and Finn? My heart was singing with every turn of a new page. This Wicked Fate is the perfect dichotomy of a bleak and deadly realm with characters who have a heart of gold. I am just telling you right now, I’m going to be begging for more stories like this fantasy romance! It hit my heart in unexpected ways and I am so, so glad that it did!

There’s nothing like having an exchange of banter, the promise of death and a morally grey character surprising everyone with their actions. Honestly, if you haven’t yet read This Wicked Fate you need to just take my word for it: you’ll want this story on your bookshelf. I know I definitely now want everything Amanda has written! It’s *brilliant* with its heartfelt messages, epic adventure and sparkling romance!

No downside for me, I adore This Wicked Fate so much!

Final Thoughts:

This Wicked Fate by indie author Amanda Aggie is the NA fantasy romance you need in your life if you want humour in a dark realm. And let’s be honest, we all need that!
