“If you would rather have blood, let it be mine.”

N. C. Scrimgeour

Overview:

A massive thank you goes to N. C. Scrimgeour for letting me read an e-ARC of Tides of Torment, the finale to the Sea of Souls Saga! This dark fantasy had me on the edge of my seat the entire way through, and I couldn’t be more delighted. But before I go any further, a million more thanks need to go to the author, for allowing me to step away just as this ARC was meant to be devoured. A storm worthy of this tale rolled through on November 1st, and it didn’t pull any punches. The fact that I was allowed to just devote my attention to starting the house insurance process? It means the world. But now let’s give you an overview…

Isla Blackwood has faced the greatest depths of the sea, and barely survived the ultimate betrayal of a loved one. As wraiths and selkies devastate towns all along the coast of Silveckan, Isla must now turn to the Sea Kith for aid. Because if she can’t gain an alliance? The Grand Admiral hunting her will be the least of her worries—for the mists are all-consuming. And if she doesn’t weather the maelstrom in front of her? No one will survive, on land or at sea…

Tides of Torment is a whirlpool of high emotions and shattered promises…

Happiness Boost:

Within Tides of Torment, Scrimgeour weaves a deadly enchantment over our hearts. She tells us to take one last deep breath, before we dive beneath the waves. And when we do? This finale, glitterbugs. Holy guacamole, this finale. If you want high stakes, devastating confessions, and heart-breaking sacrifices? You’ll be glued to these pages! Trust me, you’ll be thanking me once you’ve immersed yourself in this saga.

This dark fantasy is a masterpiece in portraying how memories hold power, and how they can twist into being someone’s salvation or ruin. I ached for the characters within Tides of Torment, and I pleaded for their lives. Have you ever had a tale wring your heart, promising to either break your spirit or uplift it? Because. This. Story. Does. That. I’m sitting here, trying to find the words that can adequately convey just how powerfully Scrimgeour hit the soul with this finale, and I don’t think I can. Honestly! Words can’t do justice to what’s been delivered here.

To read Isla’s story is to fall in love with the mythology of the sea. And with every twist and turn, every new beastie revealed from underneath the waves? I can promise you one thing: you won’t ever look at the sea the same way again. There’s magic there, and Scrimgeour has given us the spyglass with which to view it. I’m eternally grateful that I live in the same era as this author, and got to read this series.

Downside:

No downside, this was perfect from beginning to end!

Final Thoughts:

Tides of Torment by N. C. Scrimgeour is a dark fantasy finale full of the mythology of the sea, and the deadly magic it holds. I can think of no greater way to say goodbye to Isla than what’s been gifted to us here… And I’m seriously considering a re-read even though my TBR shelves are yelling at me. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is! Enjoyed what you’ve read in my review? Just click on either of the links below to grab yourself a copy! Happy reading, glitterbugs!
