“Who bled for your power?”
Amelia Macleod
Overview:
A huge thank you goes to Amelia MacLeod for letting me read an e-ARC of Winter’s Fate! This romantic fantasy is book one in The Poisoned Kingdoms trilogy, and with this kind of beginning? Honestly just lock me in for the rest of the adventure right now! But before I get ahead of myself, let’s give you an overview…
When Laena chose exile five years ago, she abandoned both her crown and her kingdom. Content to hide away in a cottage so that no one discovers her forbidden magic, she believed she did the right thing for everyone. But when shadow monsters begin to roam the lands, Laena must quickly decide if she can abandon her people for a second time. Can she trust the alliance she forms with one of the deadliest magic hunters the realm has ever seen? What happens if Captain Callum Farrow discovers her secret? Evil is spreading, and kingdoms will fall if Laena and Callum can’t work together…

Happiness Boost:
Honestly where do I even begin with Winter’s Fate?! There’s *so* many things I love about this beautiful romantasy, we’d probably be here for years if I wasn’t trying to keep it short and sweet. Should we talk about how Amelia brings a deadly twist to the world of magic, with the heart-tithers who leave devastation in their wake? What about the comic relief along the way, when this story could so easily have turned dark? Amelia has expertly crafted a tale full of humour, pain and love… And I don’t know which of these threads I love more!
I will always, always fall in love with characters who are flawed or broken in some way. And Callum Farrow is certainly one of those. This man is a shattered one compared to who he used to be, and he doesn’t hide from that fact. He acknowledges his failings, as well as the hard truth that it’s difficult to rise from the darkness. I adore his resourcefulness, his steady calm when all else is chaos, the fact that he puts the greater good above all else except for love. Amelia, I truly don’t know how you did it. But you created a complex character so immediately intriguing and lovable, I just want to reach into the pages and give him a hug.
Winter’s Fate will leave you desperate for so much more from this author. Anything and everything that Amelia MacLeod writes in the future is automatically going on my TBR. I love the quirkiness, the humour, the love that will move mountains and then utterly break them. You *must* add this to your own 2025 TBR list. Yes, I’m giving you an instruction. And yes, I expect you to follow through on it. I promise you’ll thank me for it!
Downside:
There is absolutely no downside with this incredible book!
Final Thoughts:
Winter’s Fate by Amelia MacLeod is a wonderful romantasy debut of forbidden magic, fractured hearts and tested loyalties. I’m a huge fan, to say the least!
